Catherine Shannon

Catherine Shannon was born in Lubbock to her amazing parents Tom and Barbara Ashdown. At the age of six she began her violin studies under Internationally Acclaimed Suzuki Pedagogue Barbara Barber. During her six years with Mrs. Barber she was involved in Suzuki Group Classes, the bi-weekly theory classes and competing in the annual Pastorale Music Festival. Her other pre-college instructors include Jeanette Markee and Dr Cynthia Scully. During that time Catherine was a member of the All-Region Orchestra and the Lubbock Youth Symphony Orchestra.

At age 15 she began her studies with Dr. John Gilbert, Professor of violin at Texas Tech and continued to be his pupil through her undergraduate studies. In her senior year of high school, Catherine recorded a CD with her best friend Kimberly Vardeman and her sister Rebekah Grover. The piano/cello/violin trio are known as the AVA trio and perform at many nursing homes, church services and weddings.

While attending Texas Tech University Catherine enjoyed playing in the University Orchestra and participated as a teacher in the TTU String Project. In her education she also participated in the Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Music Program. Catherine especially enjoyed performing professionally with string quartets and other ensembles.

Since the Fall of 2007 she has been a substitute for the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Shannon graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Music in the Spring of 2006 and has enjoyed teaching in her own private studio for the past six years.

During her college studies Catherine married Mark Shannon, her high school sweetheart and has now been happily married for five and a half years. They have two beautiful daughters, Hannah, who will soon be 4 years old, and Eve who is nearly 9 months old. Catherine loves being a mom and feels extremely blessed to be able to stay at home with her children.
